Source : http://www.oscars.org/press/pressreleases/2003/03.12.30.html

Beverly Hills, CA - The Academy Award for Best Picture of 2003 will be chosen from a list of 254 feature-length films.

Nomination ballots and a complete list of the 254 eligible films were mailed this week to members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. According to Academy rules, to qualify for consideration a feature-length motion picture must have a running length of more than 40 minutes and have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format. The films must open in a commercial theater, for paid admission, in Los Angeles County between January 1, 2003, and midnight December 31, 2003, and run for seven consecutive days. Films that receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release are not eligible for Academy Awards in any category. Official screen credit forms and copies of the main and end title credits must have been submitted to the Academy by December 1, 2003.

Films submitted in the Documentary, Foreign Language, Animated Feature and Short Films categories have different eligibility requirements and are viewed and selected by special voting panels of Academy members.

The 76th Academy Award nominations will be announced at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater on Tuesday, January 27, 2004.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2003 will be presented on Sunday, February 29, 2004, from the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland and televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m. PST, beginning with a half-hour arrival segment.

have they shown this one here?

I was just surfing he internet when I came across this movie titled 'Alex and Emma'. Produced by Rob Reiner, the guy responsible for 'When Harry Met Sally'(wonderful movie!), this one looks kind of interesting. According to Yahoo!Movies, the movie was released on Jun 20th, 2003.

Has it been released here in Malaysia?

Alex and Emma

married...

Yesterday, one of my bestfriend got married... we're friends since highschool.

I tried to call up all of our highschool friends. Amnah and Naz couldn't make it since they too just got married (to their hubby, of course!) the week before. Hui Yee's going to Phillipines for her sister's wedding. Marianne and Shirley also couldn't make it (they're celebrating Xmas, Yann's wedding's on 26/12). Pooi San and Jayshree already had plans (somehow they've mixed up the date and thought the wedding was on the previous week). Wan said she'll try to come (no sign of her on the day itself!). So, it was just me and Roslinda.

Since the place is a bit secluded (not to mention no public transportation), we thought it'd be better to go by car. Unfortunately there was none available. Like it or not, we had to take a taxi to go there. We'd worry about how to go back, later.
Akad Nikah ceremony - not Yann's

We arrived at 6.30 just in time for her Akad Nikah. It was just the two of us and the rest were the bride and groom's relatives. We felt a bit out of place. Luckily we had thick skin! Haha! Anyway... After 3 lafaz, the marriage was sealed! Blame on the 3 lafaz should go to her father. He kept forgetting to mention some words.... hehehehe...

While the couples go about doing their business (pose for pictures and change for the reception), Ros and I wonder about the mosque. This was the first time we step into this place, so, we thought might as well have a look around. That, and the fact that we didn't know what else to do while waiting for the reception (at 8.30 and at the time it was only 7pm). So, we went around, and ended up sitting and talking at the garden.

Ros told me about her eating disorder. She have become thinner than she was in highschool. Poor thing! You know how a-little-bit-fat-people always complaint about their size and weight and how they really wish that they'd be model-like-skinny (point to any thin people around)? Who'd ever thought that thin people also have the same desire as the former? When you listen to Ros's problem, you'd be grateful with what you have. She said it's kind of make her sad to see people happily eat lots of food when she herself had to swallow hard just to eat a tiny piece of bread! No, she's not bullimic and not aneroxic! She has a bad case of gastric. She don't have any appetite, she eats only when she's hungry. And when she eats, she'll feel like vomitting. However, Alhamdullilah, at the reception, she had none of the said problem and I can say that she manage to taste all the food served! Good for her!

So, back to the wedding!

Around 8.15, Yann called us to come to her dressing room. Being a big building, we had a 'bit' of a problem finding our way. We had to ask Yann's brother to show us the way. After several turns, we finally reached her room. It was small and it was warm (the airconditioner was not working - luckily there was a stand-fan). She looked so beautiful in her pink cekak-musang kebaya and her long vail and her tiara on her head! Eventhough he's wearing pink, Joe looked smashing too, in his Pahlawan melayu garb complete with keris and tanjak!!! Lucky guy, happy gal!

At 9pm, we went into the hall. Yann and Joe had to wait for their signal to come into the hall. We took our place at the table near the 'dais', overlooking the main table. The bride and groom came into the hall around 10 minutes (it felt like it) later... They looked so happy!!! Well, actually Yann did! Joe was looking at the floor half of the time (malu lah tu!). The couple stopped by the entrance while the Imam recite the selawat and doa. Then they sat the dais for some picture-taking session and then they moved to the main table for my favorite part of the evening - FOOD!!! I was starving! I didn't have anything since morning!

The food was really lovely and yummy! It was a 5-meal course served with nasi minyak, caramel pudding and fruits for desserts, a cup of mineral water and the all-time-fav-wedding-drink 'Sirap' for drinks. Although the food was nice and the fact that I was starving, I only had one and a half serving of rice. Unlike the other newly weds, from far I can see Yann stuffing her face with food! I'm just exaggerating! But she did eat more than the usual amount a pengantin eats! She really took her time....

Then, there was the cake cutting ceremony. They cut the cake, feed each other a bit, and pose for a picture. Later, the emcee announced that the bride and groom would be standing at the entrance to bid the guests farewell. It felt a bit like they're throwing us out! hahahaha!!! I actually wanted to take a picture with Yann and Joe, but Ros was already restless to go home. Nevermind...

My parents pick us up and sent Ros home. I had to buy them McD's choc sundae and McFlurries Oreo for that favor! Again, nevermind...

Lying on my bed, I thought it felt a bit surreal. My best friend, Yann have just gotten married!!!

What's Your Email Personality?

Hey, I just took the above test in emode and this is my result. I'm an Entertainer

If art mimics life, so too, does email. In fact, email is how the world sees you online, so why not put your best foot forward? Chances are, you're not satisfied with sending an email unless it sounds just as clever and witty as you are in person. And who can blame you?

Truth is, your friends would probably call your warm, outgoing personality your very best feature. You're the type who loves a good party and chances are, your social calendar is just as packed as your inbox — whether traveling around your neighborhood, or to different cities, and countries. You're a worldly sort, but just because you're far away doesn't mean you don't have people to make plans with. But who has time to sort through all that junk email when you're on the road?

"i don't have 's-t-u-p-i-d' written on my forehead!"

That was the remarks made by my cousin about me going to watch the LOTR Movie Marathon...

Yeah, that's the only place on your body that don't have the word 's-t-u-p-i-d' written.

Okay, fine. So, maybe he meant it as a joke. Or maybe, he really meant it !?! Whatever it is, I don't understand why people can't keep their comments to themselves. Or, if they can't stop the urge to, why not give a positive comments instead?

I didn't go to the Marathon because I'm stupid (I'm not, REALLY!). It's more of the experience. You'd never know when you'll have the chance to watch your favourite movies (trilogy, quadrology, etc) back-to-back ever again. Believe me, Malaysians are not quite good in coming up with or organizing exciting and extraordinary things... ! This is like once in a lifetime experience. So, maybe there'll be Harry Potter Movie Marathon, but damn, there's too many sequels for that story! I don't think I can endure more than 11 hours sitting on the hard uncomfortable cinema's seat.

Furthermore, the experience gets better when your friends are along on the ride! We had fun! We had fun organizing for our food stock, we had fun just waiting in the long line, we had fun watching the movies!!! I had fun watching Aragorn!!! Viggo is so handsome and SO NOT GAY!!! hehehehe....

So, was I 's-t-u-p-i-d' watching the LOTR Movie Marathon?

NO, I *#$%#$% DON'T THINK SO!!!!

'All-Star Survivor' cast and tribes already uncovered?

Source : http://www.realitytvworld.com/
By Wade Paulsen, 11/09/2003

Score one for the Web sleuths, we think. The Survivor spoiling/news sites Survivor News and Survivor Fever have both identified the 18 probable contestants in CBS's All-Star Survivor, which is currently filming in Panama. In addition, Survivor News claims to have the tribal breakdowns being used on the show.

First things first. Here are the 18 contestants, broken down by their original show:
Survivor: Pulau Tiga (4): Richard Hatch (winner), Rudy Boesch (3rd), Sue Hawk (4th), Jenna Lewis (8th).
Survivor: Australian Outback (5): Tina Wesson (winner), Colby Donaldson (2nd), Amber Brkich (6th), Jerri Manthey (8th), Alicia Calaway (9th).
Survivor: Africa (3): Ethan Zohn (winner), Lex van den Berghe (3rd), Tom Buchanan (4th).
Survivor: Marquesas (2): Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien (3rd), Rob Mariano (10th).
Survivor: Thailand (1): Shii-Ann Huang (10th).
Survivor: The Amazon (2): Jenna Morasca (winner), Rob Cesternino (3rd).
Survivor: Pearl Islands (1): Rupert Boneham (unknown).

Survivor Fever reports that Ken Stafford from Survivor: Thailand and possibly Sandra Dias-Twine from Survivor: Pearl Islands are also on hand as alternates. However, while Tina Wesson was originally an alternate when she was added to Survivor, we think the odds are against any of these battle-tested castaways pulling out at the last minute, especially after the lobbying that took place for these slots.

Survivor News, as noted earlier, also claims to have the tribal breakdown. One of the twists on this show will be the use of 3 tribes of 6 -- 18 players -- instead of the usual 2 tribes of 8 -- 16 players. Here is the reported breakdown:
Tribe 1: Rudy, Ethan, Rupert, Jenna L., Tina, Jerri.
Tribe 2: Richard, Colby, Lex, Kathy, Shii-Ann, Jenna M.
Tribe 3: Tom, Rob M., Rob C., Sue, Alicia, Amber.

As usual with "spoilers," we have no idea whether this is correct. However, the fact that both "Snewser" (the head of Survivor News) and "Zeitgeist" (the head of Survivor Fever) are reporting the same information for the players makes us reasonably comfortable speculating about the breakdowns above.

First, we note that Survivor executive producer Mark Burnett has reunited three of the four most dominant alliances in the show's history: 3/4ths of the Tagi 4 (Richard, Rudy, Sue -- missing just Kelly Wigglesworth); 4/5ths of the Ogakors (Tina, Colby, Amber, Jerri -- missing just "Kan't-Kook-Keith" Famie); and all of the Boran Male Alliance (Ethan, Lex and Tom). However, the fourth such alliance, from the "Chewing Gum" tribe led by winner/porno star Brian Heidik during Survivor: Thailand, has been completely omitted. Looks like we can confirm the reports that CBS didn't know anything about Brian's past when the show was filmed.

Based on the tribe alignments, it appears that Mark Burnett has tried to minimize the "past show aliiances" factor. The only members of the same alliance on a tribe together are Jerri and Tina -- and they weren't exactly on good terms at the end of the show, after Tina and Colby led a move to vote Jerri out because of all the trouble she caused (but not before Jerri nagged the tribe into foolishly building its shelter on a river flood plain during the rainy season, with predictable results).

In all honesty, we find ourselves pleasantly surprised by the final cast and by the tribe alignments (if accurate). The only three other people that we really would have enjoyed seeing on the show that probably weren't asked were two 9th-place finishers and a 10th place finisher: Kelly Goldsmith from Africa, John Carroll from Marquesas, and Jeff Varner from Australia, while the only person selected that we really didn't want to see again was The Amazon winner Jenna Morasca, who seems likely to be the first boot from her tribe. We admit to being very interested in whether 78-year-old Rudy will have to answer "I dunno" in any challenges -- and whether Shii-Ann will get another chance to use her "horns" -- and whether Rob Mariano will find Amber's natural cleavage as fascinating as he found Sarah Jones's silicone-enhanced cleavage.

Kudos to Mark Burnett for the selections -- and double kudos to Snewser and Zeitgeist for leading the disclosure of the selections.

how true!!!

"And all the best women are married, All the handsome men are gay...You feel deprived"

It's sooo true... Everytime you go out, the chances of you meeting a handsome straight man is very slim... And even if they're not bad-looking, you've got to be cautious coz some of them might have had the 'exeperience' of sleeping with one (gay, transvestites). There's this one blog owned by a gay person. He's a very good writer (everyone agrees!), and his blog contains some of his novels. Eversince reading those articles, my view on men in general changed! If previously, whenever I see handsome guys I'll go ga-ga, but now no more! I'll work my gay-dar and wait for the result.

Supreme by Robbie Williams
Album : Sing When You're Winning

Oh it seemed forever stopped today
All the lonely hearts in London
Caught a plane and flew away
And all the best women are married
All the handsome men are gay
You feel deprived

Yeah are you questioning your size?
Is there a tumour in your humour?
Are there bags under your eyes?
Do you leave dents where you sit
Are you getting on a bit?
Will you survive
You must survive

When there's no love in town
This new century keeps bringing you down
All the places you have been
Trying to find a love supreme
A love supreme

Oh what are you really looking for?
Another partner in your life
to abuse and to adore?
Is it lovey dovey stuff
Do you need a bit of rough?
Get on your knees

Yeah turn down the love songs that you hear
'Cause you can't avoid the sentiment
That echoes in your ear
Saying love will stop the pain
Saying love will kill the fear
Do you believe
You must believe

When there's no love in town
This new century keeps bringing you down
All the places you have been
Trying to find a love supreme
A love supreme

I spy with my little eye
Something beginning with (ah)
Got my back up
And now she's screaming
So I've got to turn the track up
Sit back and watch the royalties stack up
I know this girl she likes to switch teams
And I'm a fiend but I'm living for a love supreme

When there's no love in town
This new century keeps bringing you down
All the places you have been
Trying to find a love supreme
A love supreme

Come and live a love supreme
Don't let it get you down
Everybody looks for love
(Repeat until fade)

AFI's Gold "Rings"

The American Film Institute has weighed in on the top 10 movies and television shows of 2003 with its best-of list, giving the thumbs-up to everything from Peter Jackson's big-budget spectacular The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King to Sofia Coppola's low-budget restraint of Lost in Translation.

Continuing a tradition created last year, the AFI didn't single out any individual actor or director for kudos, instead honoring the "creative ensemble" between the folks onscreen and the technical types behind the scenes, like the director, producer, screenwriter, composer, cinematographer, editor and production designer. (Best boys and key grips remain underappreciated).
Therefore, Rings director Jackson is as much honored for "the greatest trilogy in American film" as the movie's cast members, including Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett and Orlando Bloom.

The early support is important because Jackson, whose movie was also chosen Monday as the top film of 2003 by the New York Film Critics Circle, could finally receive the Oscar recognition denied for the past two installments of J.R.R. Tolkien's big-screen adaptation. More on E! Online...

Survivor Sandra Outscouts, Outlasts

Outwit, outplay, outscout.

Office assistant Sandra Diaz-Twine captured a $1 million booty and a new GMC Envoy as the winner of pirate-themed Survivor: Pearl Islands, triumphing over scoutmaster Lillian "Big Lill” Morris in the final vote of the reality show.

Despite an aversion to the water that caused her to perform poorly in aquatic challenges, Diaz-Twine pulled her weight first as a member of the Drake tribe and later the merged Balboa tribe, earning the respect of her teammates. More on E! Online...

friends : a true definition

Well, just wanna let you know that my dilemma is over. I've spoken (actually emailed) to '1'. I was told that another person is able to be the guarantor. So, I'm off the hook. I don't actually know what's the situation on that side, but I'm feeling a bit guilty myself. Should I?

In situation like this, I start to rethink the true meaning of the word 'friend'. How come it cannot be as simple as those of Joey, Rachel, Monica, Ross, Phoebe and Chandler? I know the relationships between each of them are a bit 'messed-up' but look how they still stick together through thick and thins. OK, OK... I do realise that 'Friends' is just a sitcom, but still...

People say in a relationship you have to 'learn to give and take', while other people say that 'giving is better than taking'... I believe 'relationship' also refers to 'friendship', right? But how much should you give and how much should you take? Is there a predefined quota or limit? Are we supposed to weigh the amount of giving and/or taking done from each party? Should we be even weighing them in the first place?

Ok, fine. Maybe we should not weigh. But, doesn't the phrase 'Enough is enough' counts?

I guess another characteristic of being a friend is 'to forgive and forget'. Recently, I watched Miss India pageant where they asked each final contestant to answer this question '"Forgive and Forget is easier said than done - What do you feel?' I remembered one of the contestant replied that 'To forgive is to forget, so if you do not forget then in means you're still holding a grudge and you haven't forgiven the person' True enough. However, it is hard to forget whatever a person has done to us. Everything leaves a scar. Physically, emotionally.

So, what is the true meaning of the word 'friend'? What are the characteristics of being a friend?

So many questions, so little time...

the only reason why i fell in love with viggo...

"The Man Who Would Just As Soon Not Be King - by Sarah Lyall

IN a profession of $20 million paychecks and $20 million egos, there is something sweetly refreshing about a movie star who appears to believe that he is only one step away from the Hollywood bread line.

"I'm well aware of the fact that I'm one of the very few actors in the union who has made a steady living in the past several years," declared Viggo Mortensen. "Many times — and this is probably true of most actors — I've just sat and thought, `I've tried it for a while, and that's enough; I've given it a shot and I should move on and try something else a bit more realistic.' "

Realistically, Mr. Mortensen, 44, is doing very well, thank you, and will probably be doing even better on Dec. 17, when his latest film, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," opens. The final installment in the sprawling trilogy based on the books of J. R. R. Tolkien, it is an ensemble film, a fact the strenuously modest Mr. Mortensen hastens to emphasize. But there is no disguising that, in the role of Aragorn, he plays a particularly juicy part, the returning king himself.

Interviewed at the unkingly hour of 7 a.m. on a Sunday in August, in the deserted lobby of his hotel, Mr. Mortensen was operating at one of the lower speeds on the dial. "I'm sounding like a drugged person," he said, barefoot and freshly showered, as he tried to turn his stray thoughts into sentences over an ascetic breakfast of tea and a fruit plate.

But even his fatigue did not disguise his almost unfair handsomeness, which manifested itself in extremely chiseled cheekbones and jaw, in silky hair that fell over his forehead, and in eyes of ice-blue. Sadly, the fetching stubble and flowing hairstyle that he wears as Aragorn were absent, along with the swashbuckling cloak, but you can't have everything.

Mr. Mortensen, whose first name is pronounced VEE-goh, had barely a moment to breathe between professional commitments. Having just spent several days in post-production work on "The Return of the King," he had an hour before leaving for Edinburgh. There, he and other loyal "Lord of the Rings" alumni were gathering to watch Billy Boyd, who plays Pippin in the film, perform in a play at the Edinburgh Festival.

The conversation, and a subsequent one by telephone from Iceland, Mr. Mortensen's next stop, meandered into philosophical discourses on the humiliations of Hollywood auditions, the delights of Norse mythology, the difficulties of trying to do too many things at once, and the possible parallels between selling a film and selling the Iraqi war to the American public. In turning the talk from the specific to the general, the actor repeatedly demonstrated the self-effacement that, according to an article in Premiere, had his "Lord of the Rings" colleagues calling him "no-ego Viggo" on set.

Indeed, the affable Mr. Mortensen seems almost pathologically unable to talk about himself for more than a few minutes at a time, a quality that Peter Jackson, the director of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, said was a key to understanding him. "People are motivated by different things," Mr. Jackson said in a telephone interview. "But Viggo literally seems motivated by personal interest in what he's doing, the character that he's playing and the integrity of the finished result."

"One of the things that appeals to Viggo about Aragorn is that he's not just an action hero," Mr. Jackson continued. "In his own way, Aragorn is just as thoughtful as Viggo. There's a reluctance on his part to become the king he was meant to be. In a sense, that mirrors Viggo's reluctance to become a movie star."

In the random way these things go, Mr. Mortensen had been verging on movie stardom for quite some time. After a run of unmemorable roles in a run of unmemorable movies, he began attracting notice with a series of stirring performances.

In "G.I. Jane," he played a sadistic officer whose function was to make Demi Moore's life miserable and thus provide her with further opportunities to show off her extraordinary arm and stomach muscles; in "A Perfect Murder" he was Gwyneth Paltrow's snaky lover; and, perhaps best of all, in "A Walk on the Moon" he portrayed a smoldering 1960's hippie who introduced Diane Lane's vacationing housewife to the joys of drugs, extramarital sex and dancing topless at rock festivals.

Still, Mr. Mortensen's ambivalence about being a big-time star means that his career has not followed the usual trajectory. In fact, he says, he might well have decided to put all his efforts into painting, poetry or photography, all avocations he now pursues in what spare time he can eke out. Between scenes on the "Lord of the Rings" set in New Zealand, while his coworkers disappeared into their trailers to read or to sleep, Mr. Mortensen stayed outside, taking pictures.

Last year he started a small company, Perceval Press, which publishes books of photography, poetry and art by him and others. An exhibition of his photographs recently opened in Havana; another, he said, is to open in Los Angeles this fall.

"It's just something I tried at a certain point because I was curious," he said, explaining how he ended up an actor. "I suppose if I'd known how long it would take to be able to earn a more-or-less steady living, I would not have done it."

But Mr. Mortensen believes his acting work has been worthwhile, even in the films "that are not as good and never were going to be as good as others." And although he doesn't like to pick favorites, he admits to having a particular fondness for Aragorn.

"Here was a person who was not lacking in courage or compassion for others," he said. "He had a willingness to serve a greater common good, and he was not without fear, either."

He continued: "What I like about the story is that it's not the story of one hero. It's the story of collective heroism, in which each character goes through their own personal challenges to find their own way."

The role came to Mr. Mortensen fortuitously. Filming was already under way when Mr. Jackson concluded that Stuart Townsend, the actor he had hired to play Aragorn, was too young. The situation was desperate: he needed a new Aragorn, in New Zealand, in less than a week. He decided to try Mr. Mortensen.

Mr. Mortensen was duly told by his agent to expect the offer; his teenage son, Henry (whose mother is Mr. Mortensen's ex-wife, the singer Exene Cervenka of the punk band X), urged him to take the part, arguing that Aragorn was too cool to pass up.

But when Mr. Jackson telephoned Mr. Mortensen, whose work he admired, the conversation did not seem to go well.

"Knowing Viggo now, his conversation was incredibly Viggo-like, but at the time it was incredibly off-putting," Mr. Jackson said. "He was asking about the character: how long has he lived with the elves? Where are his parents? If I didn't know the answer, I'd make it up. There would be this terrible long silence, and I didn't know if the phone had disconnected or not, and then he'd ask another question and there would be 30 more seconds of silence."

"At the very end of the call, I thought it had gone very badly, that he wasn't going to do the role," Mr. Jackson continued. "I was thinking, `What are we going to do now?' as I was waiting for the call to end, and then there was another long silence and Viggo said, `I guess I'll see you on Tuesday.' "

Mr. Mortensen was a Tolkien neophyte, but he read about Aragorn on the flight to New Zealand and found he liked the character, particularly his restlessness of spirit. His own childhood was similarly peripatetic. Born in Manhattan to a Danish father and an American mother, Mr. Mortensen moved with his family as a boy to South America, but also frequently visited his father's homeland. Aragorn, he explained, "has connections with a lot of characters from Nordic myths, some of which are specifically told about Denmark."

Mr. Mortensen's long connection with the character is coming to an end. His next film, "Hidalgo," based on the exploits of the legendary Western horseman Frank T. Hopkins — Hidalgo was the name of his horse — is scheduled to open next year, and he confessed to feeling overextended and burned out, in the sort of situation where, as he said, "you get the day wrong and things slip through the cracks."

He's looking forward to a quieter time of fewer obligations, when, he said, he can return to "the illusion of having a feeling of things being open-ended, where if I want to, I can just stare at a painting or watch my son do things or listen to people without any other thoughts being in my head."

If that means eventually leaving acting, then so be it. "Life is sort of short, and I don't feel like I'm going to be really happy or useful to people if I'm burning the candle at both ends," Mr. Mortensen said. "I'd like to get back to a more balanced way of functioning." "

in a dilemma....

There's this friend of mine. A very best friend (Let's call her '1') in fact! For the past several days '1' has been pushing me to be the guarantor for the loan application. I don't actually mind being the guarantor. But, after consulting several people (including my mom and aunt), they advised me not to. Actually my mom and aunt said "Don'tlah!"

So, "How well do I know '1' ?" you might ask. Well enough. I know the family (parents, sis, bro, cousin) and I know where they live, their family background. We've been friends for more than 5/6 years.

It's not that I don't trust '1' . It's because my family told me not to be involved in those things. Eversince these past few months, I don't know why, but whatever my parents/aunt says, they matters to me most. Maybe I dah kena guna-guna (?) hehehe... It's weird. Coz I seldom follow their advises but now...

So, the dilemma is, like Shakespears tells it best "To be or not to be..."

One of my family's friend (we consider him as an uncle) was a guarantor. But the loan was not repaid. The person who made the loan, who I need to mention has a brand new Mercedes, a bangalow, and lots of money, refused to pay by playing 'hide and seek' with the bank, while my uncle a struggling businessman had to payoff that well-off man's debt. Unable to do so, the bank threatened to declare him 'bankrupt'. He did seek legal consultations and called the bank to explain the situation. But the bank insisted, being the guarantor he has to by hook or by crook clear the loan payment or otherwise they will proceed with the declaration. After negotiating, they all agreed that he could pay RM25,000 (that's the only money he has! Poor man!). What an unfair world! The man who made the loan is living very 'healthily' when my uncle is sweating blood to find money to pay for that man's debt!!!

Back to '1'. I tried my best to change the topic whenever it was brought up. I just didn't know what to tell or how! I didn't want to tell that I couldn't be the guarantor because my aunt won't let me! But, if I agreed, I will not know what would happen in the future. Would we still be best of friends? If we weren't, what will happen if the loan is unpaid? What if something bad happen to '1'? So many "what if"s...

Let me tell you one thing. I'm not the type who can sit happily shaking her legs knowing I have debt(s) all around me. That's why I try my best to avoid having debt or making loans. I avoid having a credit card. Although I had taken a study loan, but that loan has been converted to a scholarship. I stall from buying a car or even a house because I don't like being indebt. Call me conventional but I prefer the sound of a crisp cold hard cash rather than a swish-swipe of a credit card.

What should I do? How should I tell '1'? In the word of Yoda, "Desperate is what '1' is..."

HELP!!!

Miracle of the toilet paper

Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror, complaining to my husband that my breasts are too small. Instead of characteristically telling me it's not so, he uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion.

"If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet paper and rub it between your breasts for a few seconds."
Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in front of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts.

"How long will this take?" I ask.

"They will grow larger over a period of years," he replies.

With this, I stopped.

"Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts everyday will make my breasts larger over the years?"

Without missing a beat he says, "Worked for your butt, didn't it?"

Stupid... stupid man....

Check Me out

A woman rushed into the supermarket to pick up a few items. She headed for the express line where the clerk was talking on the phone with his back turned to her.

"Excuse me," she said, "I'm in a hurry. Could you check me out, please?"

The clerk turned, stared at her for a second, looked her up and down, smiled and said, "Not bad."

The Rat Race Explained

A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them.

"Not very long," answered the Mexican.

"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American. The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family.

The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs...I have a full life."

The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat. With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York City! From there you can direct your huge enterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican.

"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.

"And after that?"

"Afterwards? That's when it gets really interesting," answered the American, laughing. "when your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!"

"Millions? Really? And after that?"

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta, and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends."

I am Pierre, the fighter pilot!

I am really lazy to write anything in the blog, so as usual here's something for your reading pleasure....

Pierre, a brave French fighter pilot, takes his girlfriend, Marie, out for a pleasant little picnic by the River Seine. It's a beautiful day and love is in the air. Marie leans over to Pierre and says, "Pierre, kiss me!" Pierre grabs a bottle of Merlot and splashes it on Marie's lips. "What are you doing, Pierre?" says the startled Marie.
"I am Pierre, the fighter pilot! When I have red meat, I have red wine!"

She smiles and they start kissing. Things began to heat up a little and Marie says, "Pierre, kiss me lower." Our hero tears her blouse open, grabs a bottle of Chardonnay and pours it on her breasts. "Pierre! What are you doing now?" asks the bewildered Marie.
"I am Pierre, the fighter pilot! When I have white meat, I have white wine!"

She giggles and they resume their passionate interlude, and things really steam up. Marie leans close to his ear and whispers, "Pierre, kiss me much lower!" Pierre rips off her underwear, grabs a bottle of Cognac and pours it in her lap. He then strikes a match and lights the cognac on fire. Marie shrieks and dives into the River Seine. Standing waist deep, Marie throws her arms into the air and screams furiously, "PIERRE, WHAT IN THE F#@K DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?" Our 'hero' stands and says defiantly,
"I am Pierre, the fighter pilot! If I go down, I go down in flames!"

'Foot in Mouth' award goes to...

REUTERS[ TUESDAY, DECEMBER 02, 2003 01:11:44 PM ] "We also know there are known unknowns...the ones we don't know, we don't know."

LONDON: A bizarre comment by US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on the hunt for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction has been awarded the "Foot in Mouth" prize by the Plain English Campaign.

Rumsfeld, renowned for his uncompromising tough talking, received the prize for the most baffling comment by a public figure.
"Reports that say something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know,"
Rumsfeld told a press briefing.

"We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."

John Lister, spokesman for the campaign which strives to have public information delivered in clear, straightforward English, said: "We think we know what he means. But we don't know if we really know."

Although Rumsfeld's comments were made at a press briefing in February 2002, they were nominated for this year's award. Rumsfeld, whose boss U.S. President George W. Bush is often singled out by language critics for his sometimes unusual use of English, took the booby prize ahead of a bizarre effort from actor-turned politician Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman,"
was the odd statement from the new California Governor.

Previous holders of the award include U.S. actress Alicia Silverstone and Chancellor Gordon Brown. Last year's winner was actor Richard Gere.

decision making

The story given below is quite interesting and really gives us an insight into DECISION MAKING. Which one will you choose?

A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other disused. Only one child played on the disused track, the rest on the operational track. The train came, and you were just beside the track interchange. You could make the train change its course to the disused track and saved most of the kids. However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the disused track would be sacrificed. Or would you rather let the train go its way?

Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make................ No cheating...

Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. You might think the same way, I guess. Exactly, I thought the same way initially because to save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally. But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?

Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was. This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and
how farsighted and knowledgeable the minority are.

The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.

The friend who forwarded me the story said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use,and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens.

If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe.

If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made,we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one.

"A Gift of Hope" A school bag appeal for children in Palestine and Malaysia

Donate RM 50.00 and help a child go to school.

A Gift of Hope - A school bag appeal for children in Palestine and MalaysiaIt is a never ending story for the Palestinian issue and one always sense a feeling of hopelessness whenever it takes centre stage in any forum or even conversation. In fact, with recent developments, things have got worst. With the untold cases of killings and injuries which are going on, we now find that thousands of Palestinian children who begin school without even basic items.

They came here recently and one of the things they asked for was school bags - things taken for granted by most Malaysian parents. This is an urgent call for help, the economic sanctions by Israel have left numerous Palestinian parents in need of money to help them with the children's schooling.

It is sad to think that only a school bag is enough to motivate a Palestinian child to go to school, when going to school itself could easily cost their life!

To ease their sufferings, MERCY Malaysia has embarked on a campaign called 'A Gift of Hope'. For a donation of only RM50.00, you will be able to give a child in Palestine a school bag and some writing equipments to go along with it. Your child will also have the opportunity to reach out and be a friend to a Palestinian child. The donation also includes a scrap book, where your child can write messages of hope, support and love to them. Not forgetting our less fortunate Malaysian counterparts, some of the bags collected will also be distributed to them.

You can help us start the ball rolling and donate. All we need is RM50. Donation is in cash and you will receive the scrapbook. Deadline for your kind contribution is on 20th December 2003. For more information please contact Roslan Ali at 603-4256 5803 or Datin Hasnah at 60122071944

other story

I'm really tired blogging about myself... I want to talk about something else! I wish I could be like those people who get lots of ideas about what to write just by looking at things at a glance...

Besides, I think... I know the story of my life is terribly boring!!!

I had a dream....

...I was awaken by the ringing of my handphone. In my mind I cursed the person who had disturbed my beautiful slumber!!! As I said 'Hello' (sleepily I might add), the caller hung up... I cursed him/her twice before going back to sleep!!

Not more than 5 minutes later (I think), my handphone rang again!!! URRGGHH!!!!

ME : 'Hello!' (me - grumpily!)
CALLER : 'Hello Siti! What's your home address again? I'm going to send you an invitation card."

At the end of the line I heard a voice I thought I recognized but dare not ask to confirm my uncertainty. Thinking I might know this person, I replied.

CALLER : 'You're still staying at the same house?"
ME : "Yeah!" (In my mind, "is it her?It can't be her... Could it be?")

At this moment, I had gathered enough courage for the one thing I was afraid to ask.
ME : "Yann? Is that you?"
CALLER : "A'ah..."

Hey, wait a minute! I couldn't believe it ! *pinch myself*

It wasn't a dream... She is talking to me!

ME : "IT IS YOU!!!!"

I cried. Not as in 'shout'. I 'cried', as in there were tears in my eyes!!! After all this time, she finally called! I have longed to call and chat with Yann, like we used to.

ME : "I really missed you (between sobs)!" There was no reply from the other end, so I guess the feeling's not mutual (???). Who cares!!!!

Yann told me she actually called to tell me that she's getting married soon, very soon. 26th December 2003 is the date she chose. She's getting married at the mosque in Jln Duta, just the Akad Nikah and reception, no dais.

ME : "With whom?" [Knowing it's been two years since I've heard from her, I though she might have changed her boyfriend.]
YANN : "Who else..." [So, I guess it's still the same guy!]

GOSH! I REALLY MISS HER!!!

YANN : "So, I'll post you the card soon..."

I would prefer if she'd send the card by hand, so that I could see her again, my best friend!!!! But I didn't tell her that. I just said ok.

We talked for awhile only coz I had to get ready for work. We said our goodbyes. While getting ready, our phone conversation played over and over in my head. I still can't believed she called.... It was like a dream....*SIGH!*

Sitting at the couch waiting for my ride to the office, I received an SMS from her. Some of it,
"...We can just meet up instead of me postg d card..."

I REALLY REALLY MISS HER!!! At work we continued sending emails to each other.

Now don't get me wrong... I'm not into girls or anything of that sort. Yann is my 'bestest' friend. We went through lots together. I was there when her (stupid) boyfriend left her and she was there for me when my guy (stupid too!) left me! We had fun going window shopping together, spending hours and hours on the phone chatting and laughing (I swear, my mom got worried thinking I might be a 'lezzy')... We helped each other through lots of things...Best of friends
But one day, (it was one of those days) I thought what I have done for her was more than what she did for me. She kept asking me favors for this, and that... I got fed up. That's when everything starts to get sour. We called each other rarely... Then she sent me an email. I have her sister's wedding video tape (we wanted to transfer it to the standard size video cassette, but just didn't have resources to do it. So, she asked me to keep it for her). Her sister was asking for the cassette. I didn't reply her mail. I guess she got pissed off too coz the next mail she sent to me was all in 'I-AM-SO-ANGRY-I-SHALL-WRITE-YOU-AN-EMAIL-WITH-THE TEXT-TYPED-USING-ALL-CAPITAL-LETTERS'... Fine! Two can play that game! I didn't think I had problem sending the cassette to her, but it's just the way she requested for it. I goot pissed off...

It's been almost 2 and a half years since we last contacted each other... Well, I have actually tried calling her house phone, but it has been disconnected. I have forgotten her mobile number (thanks to the invention of CLIPS!). I didn't know what to write if I send her an email. So...

Until this morning....

Yann mentioned that she is thinking of asking a position here in my workplace. I hoped she will get it. I can't wait!

Oh yeah, we've agreed that we should meet each other but just couldn't decide on the date and time. She wanted me to come to the house tonight, but I'm sort of scared, what if her sister (remember wedding tape?) see me and got angry with me? I told her I'll try my best and that I'll give her a call if I'm coming to her house. Just don't wait.

All this while, I thought she's angry with me, and guess she still am... (???) Aaah! I'm just really glad she called.

It still feels like a dream!!!

I hope our friendship continues well from here on...

now i know why...

I can't do my work if nothing seems to be functioning properly... 'Nothing' referring to the systems here, not me! I got my mood-to-work after lunch and was eager too, if I may say so.

Imagine.. there I was, a racer.. in the pit lane, fully attired, all geared up, very determined to win the championship. Standing by the side of my race car, ready to rev up the engine... but the engine just refuses to start... I search around for the engineer, ANY engineer! They're all too busy with the other racer... is it my fault? NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Now, my mood is gone and I'm just gonna do some other things, like write in my blog!

it's lunch-break!!!!

I'm a procrastinator!!!

I have several tasks to do but I'm not doing it. I have spent the entire morning changing ang updating my blog. But I do answer the phone once or twice.. hehehehe...

I'm not in the mood to do any work this entire week!

Now, it's time for lunch break and obviously I'm not gonna do any work during my lunch break!!! DUHH!!!

my plan for 19th and 20th Dec 2003

Remember about the LOTR marathon I told you last time? yesterday, i've just realized that i have another event that i can't escape from on th 19th. After going through it all several times, this is what i came up with....

19 dec 2003

7.45 pm - Friend's Brother's Wedding
9.00 pm - Change clothes/Rush to LOTR Movie Marathon

One thing I am worried about; falling asleep during the movie marathon!!!!

wish i was there

The world premiere of the final Lord of the Rings film attracted up to 100,000 people to the streets of the New Zealand capital Wellington on Monday.

late for the hundreth times...

I was late again to work today... I kept having this problem eversince I started taking a ride with my aunt to work... I know... I could have make the effort of going to work on my own, but you see, the thing is that the duration of time I take coming to work on my own (public transportation) is longer than the time I come with my aunt, and more hassle too!

But, again, I have been coming to office late for only God knows how many times!!!!

In August (I think) I was called in by my BIG boss and was given a bit of an 'advice' (if you know what I mean!). At the time, I came late 15 times in AUGUST itself!!! Boss told me that I would be under 'surveillance' for the next several months and that I should make an effort to come in early or change my Flexi time to a later shift.... 'under surveillance'... I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry...

I managed to reduce the number (to 7) the following months...

In my workplace, we have a system (website) that displays what time the staff comes in or out of the office. It also provide reports on latecomers, early leavers, who's on leave/ having course somewhere etc... It made it much easier for the Administrative staff but difficult for the rest...

Luckily, once in a while the system has its 'OFF' day... hey, not everything's perfect, especially if its human-made.... so, occasionally you'll have your name reported as a latecomer when in fact everyone knows that you're the first to arrive to the office...

So, today I was late because my aunt overslept. I thought she'd forgotten to pick me. Being a 'less-than-perfect' employee I called my boss and asked for 'time-off'... of course I didn't tell her the actual excuse! I'm not that stupid!

Something interesting for today...

MTV Movie Awards 2003 - Here's Justin and Sean caught in The Matrix

They did what??? - Here's the list of some of the numerous Hollywood celebs that have some 'J-O-B' done to their face/body...

Open for business

I start work today.. after taking one whole week off... I'm not really feeling well, since Thursday... I'm having headache, back-ache, running nose, sorethroat, and my eyes, nose and inner-ears are so itchy (wish I could just reach in there and - scratch!) ... even the food that goes into my mouth tastes wierd...

This morning, I woke up wishing that I don't have to go to work... heck! I wish I don't have to work at all!

But then again, we always wish for things like that, you know what I mean?

If we're a student, we wished we don't have to study and instead, we wish that we are already working and making lots (TONNES actually!) of money!
If we're working, we wished that we are not. Instead we hope to go back during to our school days when things were more fun and we couldn't care less for anything, everything!

*YAWN!*

This morning, I had to drag myself to getoff the bed and go to work...

So, what about Raya?

Well, it was normal... as usual... we did our normal first-day-of-Hari-Raya-routine...
wake up - dress up - ask for forgiveness from each family member (I didn't actually salam my parents coz I was angry with my mom for not lending me any of her scarf) - visit Kubur - have breakfast at my aunt's house - visits my step-grandparents house - visits my (biological) father's house - do some shopping (Carrefour was opened) - go home - watch TV...

There was the usual ang-pow-giving (this year I felt obliged to give), kuih raya, ketupat, rendang, ayam roast and all... But all in all, I guess I have lost that Raya-spirit ... and for the first time ever, I have no collection of Raya Angpows at all this year! tsk! tsk!

That is why Raya is best celebrated when you're 20 and younger!
