plucking yew

interesting or just plain bore???

History of Middle finger
Well, now......here's something I never knew before, and now that I know it, I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends in the hope that they, too, will feel edified . Isn't History more fun when you know something about it?

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous weapon was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as "plucking the yew" (or "pluck yew").

Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, "See, we can still pluck yew! PLUCK YEW!"

Since 'pluck yew' is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodental fricative 'F', and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute!

It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as "giving the bird."

And yew thought yew knew everything.

could it be

i think i saw two of the peter pan indonesian band members at the mall p.k.a. Yaohan during lunch today.

i think.

i don't actually recognize their faces.

both spotted in Vincci, wearing black Hard Rock Cafe shirt. one with spiky blondish tip hair style. the other guy, who was quite built, were buying a sandal for someone.. both were on the phones.

i could be wrong.

to think again, i think may-be i'm wrong.

coz, they're gonna perform this Sunday at Planet Hollywood. So, it's not right for them to be wearing HRC's shirt, right?

hmmph???

it could be those two guys at both end.

'smouldering idol' - no more

The news is in.

Constantine Maroulis is no longer in the running for the title of 'American Idol 4'

);

the bottom three were constantine, anthony and vonzell.

I thought it's Anthony's time to go... unfortunately, he managed to 'escape' again after being in the bottom three for the 3rd consecutive time!!!

I agree that constantine might have chosen the wrong song last night. Honestly speaking, he sucks singing it. But, Scott sucks big time too!

i think the voters wanted to save Scott (after hearing simon's 'if i were you, i'll pack my suitcase' comment) so much that they're willing to sacrifice constantine for him. he wasn't even in the bottom three.

i'm getting too emotional about this, am i? i know, i know... it's not the end of the world.

well, knowing that constantine's band has just signed a record deal last week, this would not be the last time we'll see of him - unless he gets kicked out of the band as well...

leaving you feeling cold

i thought i should put in some entry this morning before I get my hands dirty with all my office works for today.

but what to put in?

i'm not really that articulate.
i'm not a good story teller.
i think if i was a movie i'd be like "Cold Creek Manor" - i know i should explain why, but i can't seem to find the right word(s) for it. well, let's just say i think i'm that bad!

i wish i was more like SEX IN THE CITY'S Carrie (the credit here should actually goes to the scriptwriter, huh?) or Zach Braff!
They're funny and very interesting. Unlike me whose entries are only about what I've been up to, day in day out.
i'm boring! I know!!!

i don't even have a theme for my blog!
even if i did, i'd change them all the time.
urggh!

One of these days I might find myself abandoning the blog for good bcoz of this!

so, anyway... i'better stop with the whining before you all get even more bored.
better start my work now.

ps: Simon Cowell's Il Divo Hits the U.S - Il Divo was created by "American Idol" meanie Simon Cowell in the traditional commercial boy-band way: they were hand-picked after a huge international search. <- i think i should have a listen to their songs...

Truth Is
by Fantasia

Ran into an old friend yesterday
Caught me by surprise when he called my name
He was a familiar face, from a chapter in my past
Talked for awhile, I smiled and then
Said that he was seeing somebody and
Told me this was gonna last
Showing me her photograph

And all the feelings I thought were gone
Came rushing back to me at once
Tried to smile and hide the way I felt
But I was thinking to myself

[chorus]
(Truth is) I never got over you
(Truth is) wish I was standing in her shoes
(Truth is) and when it's all said and done
Guess I'm still I love with you
(Truth is) I never should have let you go
(Truth is) and it's killing me cause now I know
(Truth is) and when it's all said and done
Guess I'm still I love with you

We reminisced on the way things used to be
Shared a couple laughs, shared some memories
Talked about the things that changed
Some for good and some for bad
Then he said goodbye and he paid for lunch
Promised that we'd always keep in touch
Grabbed my bags and grabbed my thoughts
Walked away and that was that

And all the feelings I thought were gone
Came rushing back to me at once
Tried to smile and hide the way I felt
But I was thinking to myself

Now the truth is, it hurts
But I know that the fault's mine
Cause I let him go
Tried to get over it, but it's messing with my mind
(Because I know)

I just gotta be honest, I guess
I guess I'm still in love...

laaaa-zeeeeee dazzzzzze

had, what you might call, a 'lazy day' all to myself yesterday. i did nothing but lay in front of the tv and watch my fav shows.

by afternoon i thought i should at least do some work to get things off of my mind.

grabbed the scraper, headed straight to the toilet and started scraping the old paints off. at first i thought i'd just repaint the top part of the walls.
ended up doing 95% of it...

stopped a while at 8pm to watch the result show of American Idol.
Damn! why is Anwar out?
he has a good voice although lacking a bit in the personality department...
but i guess to be an 'idol' you have to have the right combination (= package) huh?
oh well...

continued on with my work.
i was bored doing the painting so i moved on with cementing the holes on the bottom side of the walls.
2 hours later, i ended up cementing the whole toilet floor!
it's still drying up when i checked this morning.
hopefully the floor's all level up and the water can flow into the hole.
otherwise, we might find an unwanted 'swimming pool' everytime we take a bath!

heheh...heh.

Your horoscope for today

wow! when rini and alma said that you'd find the horoscope to be true when you read it at the end of the day, i was sceptical...

but just now, when i opened the Friendster's site, i had a glimpsed of my assigned horoscope and... yeup, those two girls were right!

Today's Forecast
Family members will be a lot more erratic than you've seen them in some time. Does this mean you should disown them? Not if nothing deliberately hurtful has been done to you. Besides, you won't be this angry next week.

The Bottom Line
Calculating the risks is one of your specialties. Make sure it all adds up.

In Detail
Sit down and count to 10 -- no, better make that 20. You're pretty darned angry about something, and it came upon you so suddenly that you're not sure what to do about it. Oh, and if you're in the same room with the person who managed to push those buttons -- say, if it's a coworker -- better put some distance between you two. One never knows what you might say or do right now.

should have read them yesterday, huh? well, too late now!

Somewhere I belong

By Linkin Park

When this began I had nothing to say
And I'd get lost in the nothingness inside of me
(I was confused)
And I let it all out to find that
I'm not the only person with these things in mind
(Inside of me)
but all the vacancy the words revealed
Is the only real thing that I've got left to feel
(Nothing to lose)
Just stuck, hollow and alone
And the fault is my own
And the fault is my own

I want to heal, I want to feel
What I thought was never real
I want to let go of the pain I've held so long
(Erase all the pain till it's gone)
I want to heal, I want to feel
Like I'm close to something real.
I want to find something I've wanted all along
Somewhere I belong

And I've got nothing to say
I cant believe I didn’t fall right down on my face
(I was confused)
looking everywhere only to find that it's
Not the way I had imagined it all in my mind.
(So what am I)
What do I have but negativity
Cause I cant justify the way everyone is looking at me
(Nothing to lose)
Nothing to gain, hollow and alone
And the fault is my own
And the fault is my own

I want to heal, I want to feel
What I thought was never real
I want to let go of the pain I've held so long
(Erase all the pain till it's gone)
I want to heal, I want to feel
Like I'm close to something real
I want to find something I've wanted all along
Somewhere I belong

I will never know
Myself until I do this on my own
And I will never feel
Anything else until my wounds are healed
I will never be
Anything 'til I break away from me
And I will break away
I'll find myself today

I want to heal, I want to feel
What I thought was never real
I want to let go of the pain I've held so long
(Erase all the pain till it's gone)
I want to heal, I want to feel
Like I'm close to something real
I want to find something I've wanted all along
Somewhere I belong

I want to heal, I want to feel like
I'm somewhere I belong
I want to heal, I want to feel like
I'm somewhere I belong
Somewhere I belong

These stuff should be in Ripley's Believe It Or Not!"

Allah have own reasons for creating these people. Balance.
Allah gave them brains for them to use, which in these cases, they didn't! Stupid.

THE 2004 DARWIN AWARDS

Yes, these are all true. They are finally out again. It's an annual honour given to the person who did the gene pool the biggest service by killing themselves in the most extraordinarily stupid way. Last year's winner was the fellow who was killed by a Coke machine which toppled over on top of him as he was attempting to tip a free soda out of it.

And the nominees this year in reverse order are.....

7. milk and gasoline
A young Canadian man, searching for a way of getting drunk cheaply, because he had no money with which to buy alcohol, mixed gasoline with milk. Not surprisingly, this concoction made him ill, and he vomited into the fireplace in his house. The resulting explosion and fire burned his house down, killing both him and his sister.

6. schoolgirl and mask

A 34-year-old white male found dead in the basement of his home died of suffocation, according to police. He was aproximately 6' 2" tall and weighed 225 pounds. He was wearin g a pleated skirt, white bra, black and white saddle shoes and a woman's wig. It appeared that he was trying to create a schoolgirl's uniform look. He was also wearing a military gas mask that had the filter canister removed and a rubber hose attached in its place. The other end was inserted into his rectum for reasons unknown, and was the cause of his suffocation. Police found the task of explaining the circumstances of his death to his family very awkward. (Damn it...I want pictures!!!)

5.plane and moon

Three Brazilian men were flying in a light aircraft at low altitude when another plane approached. It appears that they decided to moon the occupants of the other plane, but lost control of their own aircraft and crashed. They were all found dead in the wreakage with their pants around their ankles.

4. octopus straps and bungee jump
A 22-year-old, Glade Drive, Reston, VA, man was found dead after he tried to use octopus straps to bungee jump off a 70 foot railroad trestle.
Fairfax County polic e said Eric Barcia, a fast-food worker, taped a bunch of these straps together, wrapped one end around one foot, anchored the other end to the trestle at Lake Accotink Park, jumped and hit the pavement. Warren Carmichael, a police spokesman, said investigators think Barcia was alone because his car was found nearby. "The length of the cord that he assembled was greater than the distance between the trestle and the ground," Carmichael said. Police say the apparent cause of death was "Major trauma."

3. rattlesnake and catch

A man in Alabama died from rattlesnake bites. It seems that he and a friend were playing a game of catch, using the rattlesnake as a ball. The friend, no doubt a future Darwin Awards candidate, was hospitalized.

2. lighter and leak
Employees in a medium-sized warehouse in west Texas noticed the smell of a gas leak. Sensibly, management evacuated the building, extinguishing all potential sources of ignition; lights, power, etc. After the building had been evacuated, two technicians from the gas company were dispatched.
Upon entering the building, they found they had difficulty navigating in the dark. To their frustration, none of the lights worked. Witnesses later described the sight of one of the technicians reaching into his pocket and retrieving an object that resembled a cigarette lighter. Upon operation of the lighter-like object, the gas in the warehouse exploded, sending pieces of it up to three miles away. Nothing was found of the technicians, but the lighter was virtually untouched by the explosion. The technician suspected of causing the blast had never been thought of as 'bright' by his peers.

AND THE WINNER OF THE 2004 DARWIN AWARD SHOULD BE....

1. balls and washer
Based on a bet by the other members of his threesome, Everitt Sanchez tried to wash his own "balls" in a ball washer at the local golf course. Proving once again that beer and testosterone are a bad mix, Sanchez managed to straddle the b all washer and dangle his scrotum in the machine. Much to his dismay, one of his buddies upped the ante by spinning the crank on the machine with Sanchez's scrotum in place, thus wedging them solidly in the mechanism. Sanchez, who immediately passed his threshold of pain, collapsed and tumbled from his perch.

unfortunately for Sanchez, the height of the ball washer was more than a foot higher off the ground than his testicles are in a normal stance, and the scrotum was the weakest link. Sanchez's scrotum was ripped open during the fall, and one testicle was plucked from him forever and remained in the washer, while the other testicle was compressed and flattened as it was pulled between the housing of the washer, and the rotating machinery inside. To add insult to injury, Sanchez broke a new $300 driver that he had just purchased from the pro shop, and was using to balance himself. Sanchez was rushed to the hospital for surgery, and the remaining threesomes were asked to leave the course.

This last one wouldn't normally count, because the idiot didn't die. But because he cannot reproduce as a result of his qualifying act of stupidity, we have allowed it.

OUCH!!! THAT HAS R-E-A-L-L-Y GOTTA HURT!!!!

Gosh! Still can't believe there are stupid people like them in the world!!!

"Misi Mencari [place my full name here]"

So what's up with me lately?

  1. heard news of Aneem's wedding on the 1st of May,

  2. staying late in the office for almost a week to complete some tasks which was overdued,

  3. tini and i met up with laydiefa and mysara for some interview thingy. Also found out mysara's significant other is actually one of my junior colleagues,

  4. finishing up on things at PJ home,

  5. first weekday's sleep over at PJ home,

  6. heard about the "Misi Mencari [sue_ssh]" conducted by mysara's bf. LOL!!! guess he doesn't know me coz I'm a low profile person and we're not on the same floor. anyway, the mission should be completed by this morning, since i sat next to his table (him and another colleague of my unit) at breakfast,

  7. received this interesting article from a colleague which i wish i could forward to my boss!

Dear Boss,

People who do lots of work... make lots of mistakes

People who do less work... make less mistakes

People who do no work... make no mistakes

People who make no mistakes... gets promoted

That's why I spend most of my time sending e-mails & playing games at work
I need a promotion.

the news on the travelling jeans

previous status in order :
(1) found out my jeans missing - suspect taken by stupid sister(2) saw sister at concert wearing the missing jeans - confirmed my suspision and have a witness to confirm it!

the jeans look somthing like this
so, the latest is she's back last Friday for the next 10 days! when asked, my mum said she'll go through sister's things at night while she's asleep to find the jeans.

i came home yesterday and the family was at aunt's place, again! called mum to check if she found the jeans.

mum : not yet...
me : never mind. I have. and she did take the jeans.
mum : in that case you take it out from her bag.
me : no, i'm not. the jeans is faded, dirty and already torn. i want her to pay for the jeans instead.
mum : how much is it?
me : it's rm180.
mum : cannot lah like that... she doesn't have money...
me : habis tu kalau pandai-pandai ambik barang orang, pandai-pandai lah ganti! senang lah camtu! pakai ambik, rosakkan, tak nak ganti!
me : and what about club med?
mum : that's just a temporary job. where can she get that money?
(if only she knew that daughter of hers had money to come down to KL from kuantan with her friends, to watch Force of Nature concert with ticket worth rm82!)
me : if you're not gonna tell her, pass the phone and i'll tell her directly.

but i didn't have a chance to as my phone keeps on getting disconnected and the signal wasn't strong.

before getting disconnected, i did hear her telling someone about the rm180-compensation.

she's too much!!! the sis! i don't mind if she :
(1) asked to borrow
(2) wash after borrowing
(3) keep the thing at least in it's original condition when she took it
(4) at least, for god sake, return it lah!

but these 4 things, are like, in her "4 things not to do when taking other people's stuff" list!

and this wasn't her first time! she's done these before too many times! i can't even keep count! and yet, she keep getting away with it!

i'm up to my nose with her!

i don't care!

my mum pun satu! she's never one for finding the truth...

this is actually not about money! and is definitely not about sibling rivalry!

what this is about is taking responsibility for your action. and also, not to steal!

that's why they called it the blues

i'm so down today.

i had a dream last night that left me feeling emotionally drained out.
it wasn't sad but in a way a really great one. yet, the notion of it makes we wanna cry my heart out...

eversince this morning, questions kept playing and repeating in my mind...
did i let one fall off my grasps?
should i regret my actions?
should i be wasting these feelings on something i know i'll never get back?

*sigh*

it's been a while since i last thought of it. so, what's with the dream?

i shouldn't be dwelling on this too much!

got load of works to finish up by today... WORK! WORK!

Memori
by ruth sahanaya

Sekedip matamu seakan dalam mimpi
Senyummu lesungmu wajahmu menjelma
Hayalan lembut, memukau hati
Ke dulu kala hari yang bahagia
Kau lari kukejar tertawa bercanda
Sumpahku, sumpahmu yang kini tak tercapai
Kau pergi jauh, janji kembali
Kini kau pulang membawa kekasih

Memori kau membuka luka lama
Yang 'ku ingin lupa
Memori tolong daku pergi jauh
Janji tak 'kan kembali

I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues
by Elton John

Don't wish it away
Don't look at it like it's forever
Between you and me
I could honestly say
That things can only get better
And while I'm away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won't be long
Before you and me run
To the place in our hearts
Where we hide

Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second
Without hesitation
And never forget I'm your man
Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself

And I guess that's why
They call it the blues
Time on my hands
Could be time spent with you
Laughing like children
Living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that's why
They call it the blues

yeah, as if i have nothing else to do lah

but, for the sake of passing the baton and coz I'm now stressed out with my task at hand... here's my answer to sinner's sticky stick (what does sticky stick means anyway?)

1. What is the total amount of music files on your computer?
close to 5GB. I need to get me self an iPod so that I can emancipate my PC from this heavy load of music!

2. The CD you last bought?
Original CD : Ning's Erti Pertemuan
Pirated CD : lINKIN PARK, JENIFER LOPEZ REBIRTH, EMINEM ENCORE, GREEN DAY AMERICAN IDIOT, USHER CONFESSION, U2 HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB

3. What was the last song you listened to before reading this message?
Sahabat by Peterpan <-told you I'm brushing up on my Peterpan's, didn't I?

4. Write down five songs that you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.
(will change the question to Write down songs that you often listen to or that mean a lot to you)

At the moment, here are the songs. don't think it meant much anyway. only to release my boredom and stress. In no particular order...

1. Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day
2. Mockingbird - Eminem
3. Soldier - Destiny's child
4. Lose My Breathe - Destiny's child
5. Lonely - Akon
6. Sexed Up - Robbie Williams
7. Radio - Robbie Williams
8. Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson
9. Since You've Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson
10.Vertigo - U2

5. Who are you going to pass this stick to and why?
Lulu - I know she'll paste the answer on her blog. Easy for me to read maaa...
Jean - let's see how fast she managed to download songs onto her PC from the time she started her new job (mid march) til now...

other obvious reason is that among us friends, apart from tini and liza, these are the other two people that usually crosses my mind!

three things i wanna ask/tell you

thing #1
How the heck do you justify when someone says that the things you've been doing all these while are actually wrong? With what should you compare it against to prove it otherwise?

no wonder people worries whenever they hear the word "Auditor". *shiver*

thing #2
in the words of Liza's student, "I have a disease..."

do you have any advice or proven-to-work cure for tardiness?

thing #3
Peterpan's coming to Malaysia for a 4 day visit to promote their album. They'll be performing for Astro's 'Dari Studio Satu' this Friday. And I'm going!!! yeay!

That reminds me. I need to brush up on my peterpan lyrics/songs.

Lucky you're not my colleague. Otherwise you'd be sick listening to me playing their song all...the...time! at least until this Friday!

how we are feeling today?

did u notice that the underlying message for most of the hit songs on air currently is - lonely? well, lonely, alone... you know what i meant!

avril lavigne - nobody's home

"What's wrong, what's wrong now
Too many, too many problems
Don't know where she belongs
Where she belongs
She wants to go home but nobody's home
That's where she lies
broken inside
No place to go, no place to go
To dry her eyes broken
inside "

Rob Thomas - Lonely no more

"I don’t want to be lonely no more
I don’t want to have to pay for this
I don’t want another lover at my door
It’s just another heartache on my list
I don’t wanna be angry no more
You do know I could never stand for this
So when you tell me that you love me, know for sure
I don’t wanna be lonely anymore"

green day - boulevard of broken dreams

"My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone
I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line
Of the edge and where I walk alone"

yellowcard - only one

"Made my mistakes, let you down
And I can't, I can't hold on for too long
Ran my whole life in the ground
And I can't, I can't get up when you're gone
And something's breaking up (breaking up)
I feel like giving up (like giving up)
I won't walk out until you know"

papa roach - scar

"Tear my heart open, I sew myself shut
My weakness is that I care too much
My scars remind me that the past is real
I tear my heart open just to feel
Drunk and I'm feeling down
And I just wanna be alone
I'm pissed cause you came around
Why don't you just go home
Cause you channel all your pain
And I can't help you fix yourself
You're making me insane"

and the last one is obviously, Akon's Lonely... not to say i don't like the song, i do! (especially the chipmunk's in the background!)

is it purely a coincidence?

or...

despite the billions and billions of people in the world, are we actually feeling lonely - after the tragedies that have taken place - hence, the songs?

what happen to 'We are the world'? or, or this song...

"it's a world of laughter, a world or tears
its a world of hopes, its a world of fear
there's so much that we share
that it's time we're aware
it's a small world after all
it's a small, small world
There is just one moon and one golden sun
And a smile means friendship to everyone.
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small small world"

can i have something up beat, up tempo! the word here is 'happy' lah, people!

could it be i'm the only one noticing this? *wonder*
